Daniel Steenkamer & Rachel Vivolo Named Athletes of the Month

Maroon & Gold Athletes of the Month - October

Daniel Steenkamer - Junior, Cross Country Runner
Daniel has worked hard to improve over the past three seasons. Dedicated to his sport, he is a leader not only on the course, but also in our school. He has improved in each of his last four races for the Vikings, including a season best time of 17:34 in the Catholic Conference Championships on October 25, 2019. With this time, he broke a school record that stood for over 10 years, and also earned All-Catholic honors finishing in 9th place at this very competitive meet.

His daily effort, his willingness to trust in his training, and his team-first attitude all contribute to his individual success and the successes of the Cross Country team as a whole.

Rachel Vivolo - Junior, Volleyball Player
Rachel is a fierce competitor and two-year varsity starter for the volleyball team. During the early part of October she sustained an injury that could have kept her out of the lineup for several games, but due to her strong will to compete, she only missed one game. She contributed to the late season success of the team by leading in ace serves and digs during the stretch run.
Her hustle and determination was very evident at a crucial point in the Caravel game on October 22nd when she made an amazing hustle play going after a shanked pass. She kept the ball in play and the Vikings earned a crucial point, which propelled the rejuvenated team to go on and win the match. That match was pivotal in the team securing their first winning season in over 15 years.
