Welcome Back John Petruzzelli to the VKNation

We are pleased to announce that John Petruzzelli has been selected as Principal of St. Elizabeth High School for the next school year.

Mr. Petruzzelli is well known to the Viking community, having served in many roles within our high school over the years. From teaching, coaching, recruitment, and administration, his leadership roles were crucial in carrying out the mission of St. Elizabeth School.

Known to many former students as “Mr. P”, he taught history (1993-98) while coaching baseball and track. He was also moderator of the Student Leadership Group and coordinated Catholic Schools Week activities for the Vikings. After teaching for five years, he left St. Elizabeth to join St. Joseph’s Preparatory School in Philadelphia, PA as the Dean of Students (1998-2002). As Dean he was responsible for the student service areas of discipline and attendance, while serving on the Principal’s Cabinet for four years as a Crisis Management Team member. In 2002 he became the Director of the Ignatian Service Program, where he coordinated underclassman service projects and events, including summer service trips.

In 2004, Mr. Petruzzelli made his way back to St. Elizabeth High School as the Director of Admissions & Director of Campus Ministry. He was crucial in expanding our recruitment efforts and initiatives, while marketing the VKNation to Catholic elementary schools with the Viking for a Day program. As a leader of Campus Ministry, he was responsible for the daily prayer life of our school and coordinated school liturgies, prayer services, student retreat programs, and summer service trips. A true embodiment of Benedictine spirit, Mr. Petruzzelli was later promoted to Associate Principal of St. Elizabeth High School (2006 - 2010), while still overseeing the Admissions Office. His scope of responsibilities included marketing, recruitment, strategic planning, Middle States Re-Accreditation, teacher mentoring, and scheduling, while also teaching history. Mr. Petruzzelli also founded St. E’s “Project Spain” student exchange program.

In addition to being an administrator at St. E, he held other administrative positions that include Principal of Bethlehem Catholic High School (2010-2017), Principal of St. Joseph's Preparatory School (2017-2018), and Principal of Kolbe Academy (2018-2022). As Principal of Kolbe Academy, he was directly responsible for the initial formulation and implementation of a brand new Catholic recovery high school. He led the efforts in addressing the establishment of all school areas including Catholic identity, academics, finance, admission, marketing, development, facilities, and more.

Mr. Petruzzelli brings with him not only a wealth of experience and knowledge of Catholic education, but also a long history and familiarity with the traditions and values within St. Elizabeth School and Parish community. He is committed to ensuring that all students learn to their maximum potential and to fostering innovation through collaboration with teachers, staff, students and families. His passion lies in cultivating future leaders within his schools, thus facilitating depth in talent, cultural stability and leadership resiliency. He is uniquely qualified to mentor and develop the next generation of St. E school leaders.

Mr. Petruzzelli has proven to be an invaluable leader to our community and a pillar of Benedictine Spirit and Viking Pride. We are thrilled to have him back on campus to continue to lead and carry out the mission of our school. Mr. Petruzzelli shared about his return, “I am excited to return to a place that I love and to give back to a community that has given me so much”.

Please join us in welcoming Mr. Petruzzelli back to our Maroon and Gold family!
