Vincent Corbino & Rachel Vivolo Named Maroon & Gold Athletes of the Week
As our fall seasons come to a close, we recognize those athletes that have contributed to their team's success.
Maroon & Gold Athletes: Week of 10/15/18 – 10/21/18
Vincent Corbino – Senior, Soccer Player
With the large number of senior athletes in this fall season, there is bound to be competition for starting spots and opportunities to impact players. The soccer team carries the heaviest load this season with over 15 senior athletes in the program. They have looked to their seniors for leadership on and off the field - sometimes that comes with being very vocal and other times being the quiet players who push others to perform better. Although they have had some hard times finding the net, it is not for lack of trying or the desire to create offensive opportunities. Vincent is a senior who has been a constant offensive threat in all of the games played this season. He found the net in the game against First State Military Academy helping the team to a 4-0 win. He has also been the guy that teammates look to when a penalty kick is called. He hasn’t missed a penalty kick to date. In addition, he scored the game winner in overtime against Hodgson, and had a penalty kick in the St. Marks game. We congratulate Vincent for his offensive presence on the field and his overall leadership on and off the field as a team captain.
Maroon & Gold Athletes: Week of 10/22/18 – 10/28/18
Rachel Vivolo – Sophomore, Volleyball Player
Rachel is a sophomore who has really stepped up her performance this year. After working very hard in the off season, she has brought her skills and tenacious effort to the volleyball court this fall. A quiet leader, she has performed with confidence and poise, always working hard to keep the other teammates focused and on each and every point. This past week the volleyball team secured a spot in the upcoming state tournament with wins over First State Military Academy and Newark High School. Rachel was instrumental in both wins with a combined total of 13 aces and 8 digs.
