8th Grade Curriculum

  • Language Arts:
    • Houghton Mifflin, Into Literature Program
    • 90 minute block to integrate all areas of Language Arts (reading, writing, spelling, vocabulary and grammar)
  • Math:
    • McGraw-Hill, Glencoe Math Program
    • Focus on roots, real numbers, rational numbers, irrational numbers, rate of change, slope, scientific notation, solve linear equations, graph linear equations, functions, correlation, scatter plots, lines of best fit, triangles, parallel lines, volume, transformations, Pythagorean Theorem
  • Social Studies:
    • McGraw-Hill/National Geographic Society, The American Journey: Modern Times
    • Focus on U.S. History from Civil War Reconstruction to present day, including the Industrial Revolution, World War I & II, Cold War and Civil Rights Era
  • Science:
    • Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Science Dimensions Program
    • Focus on physical science topics such as energy, energy transfer, matter, chemical processes, motion, electricity, magnetism, waves and light
  • Religion:
    • Sadlier, We Live Our Faith Program
    • Focus on Christian morals, history of the Church, modern Christianity and Catholic identity
    • Confirmation preparation is coordinated through the St. Elizabeth parish office
  • Special Activity Periods:
    • Art
    • Physical Education
    • Spanish (three times per week)
    • STEM Extension once a week
